This is a trolley container to the standard gauge of a conventional lock (41.50 m x 5.50m)
which moves on a slope of 41%. The difference in altitude of 44.55 m is crossed in only 4 minutes,
and this is practically without energy because the weight of water and counterweights are used.
The dimensions are gigantic, the contrast is striking when you observe the maneuver
unwinding without noise, without shaking: all smoothly! This work was built to allow
the barges to cross this difference in altitude and save a day’s sailing between Strasbourg and Paris.
River tourism is booming: more than 10,000 pleasure boats use the Incliné Plan each year.
